Energy Efficiency in our in-store Refrigeration driving improvements in sustainability
Since 2022, A.F. Blakemore & Son have a invested a significant amount of money on upgrading our in-store refrigeration systems. This was an essential step toward reducing overall energy consumption while modernising our store environments and driving sustainability for the benefit of our customers, colleagues, and communities alike.
Since 2022, our Retail & Procurement teams have prioritised energy efficiency in response to rising energy costs. With a £5.3 million capital investment, we focused on upgrading refrigeration systems across our retail stores. This was an essential step toward reducing overall energy consumption while modernising our store environments.
By 2023/24, our efforts resulted in a 12% reduction in total energy consumption compared to the previous year. This success was driven by improved energy monitoring and the implementation of energy-saving measures across our retail network.
Over forty stores have undergone upgrades, making this the most significant and rapid series of store developments in our history. Alongside refrigeration improvements, we are also refreshing store imagery and layouts, ensuring that our stores are both energy-efficient and future-ready.
This initiative aligns with our commitment to "Building a Better Future", demonstrating how targeted investment and operational improvements can drive both cost savings and sustainability.
